Crayon Solitaire

How to play Crayon Solitaire

  1. Press Deal, or open today's Daily Deal. Draw 1 turns one card from the stock at a time, Draw 3 turns three.
  2. Build the seven columns down in alternating colours (a red 6 on a black 7). Only a King can go into an empty column.
  3. Move cards to the four foundations by suit, from Ace up to King. Moving a card off a column turns up the hidden card under it.
  4. Click or tap the stock to draw. When the stock runs out, click the empty stock to turn the waste back over.
  5. Drag a card or a run of cards, or tap a card to send it to its best spot (foundation first). When every card is face up, Auto-finish sends the rest home.

About this game

Crayon Solitaire is classic Klondike on an ink-blue felt table with cream cards, brush-drawn suits and linocut face cards. Before you see a deal, a solver has already found a way to win it, so every game can be won. Play Draw 1 or Draw 3, Scored (undo costs 15 points and a fast win earns a time bonus) or Relaxed (free undo). Casual deals are a warm-up; ten Standard wins open Expert, long Draw 3 deals that need several passes through the stock, and three Expert wins open Vegas mode with a running bank. The Daily Deal is the same for everyone each day and keeps a daily streak. Wins unlock new card backs, or you can draw your own back and see it on every face-down card. Thirteen stamps reward feats like clearing a column, winning without undo or finishing under four minutes. If you reload by accident, your deal comes back paused.

They show whenever you play by touch, touch-screen laptops included, and hide when you use the keyboard; the pause menu has On-screen controls (Auto, Always, Off), Left-handed (moves them and the stock to the other side) and Vibrate.

Questions

Is Crayon Solitaire free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with nothing to download and no sign-up.

Can every deal be won?

Yes. Each deal is checked by a solver before you see it, so there is always at least one winning line. Some still take careful play and an undo or two.

How does scoring work?

In Scored mode a card to a foundation is worth 10, waste to a column 5, turning up a hidden card 5. A card back from a foundation costs 15, turning the stock over in Draw 1 costs 100 and each undo costs 15. Win in over 30 seconds and you also get a time bonus of 700,000 divided by your seconds.

What is the difference between Draw 1 and Draw 3?

Draw 1 turns one card from the stock at a time and is easier. Draw 3 turns three, and only the top one can be played, so it takes more planning. Expert deals are always Draw 3.

How do I unlock Expert, Vegas and card backs?

Expert opens after 10 Standard wins and Vegas after 3 Expert wins. Card backs unlock by total wins: Grid at 1, Wave at 5, Sunburst at 15 and Gold Foil at 40. A back you draw yourself is always available.

What happens if I reload the page?

Your current deal is kept for this browser tab and comes back paused, with your moves, score and time. Wins, bests, streaks and unlocks are saved in this browser.
