Magic Crayon

How to play Magic Crayon

  1. Draw a shape on the rooftops with your mouse or finger. The game reads it as you draw (the label above your pen shows what it sees and how sure it is) and drops it in as a real object.
  2. A straight line is a plank, a box is a heavy crate, a circle is a wheel, a triangle is a ramp, a zigzag is a spring and an arch is a canopy. Each job shows which shapes you may use.
  3. Press Go (Space). The courier runs right on his own: he hops anything up to about his own height, runs up slopes, bounces off springs and grabs canopies to glide down long drops.
  4. Get him into the green DROP chute. Lasers zap him unless something solid blocks them, falls of more than about four metres are a hard landing, and pressure plates open gates while something rests on them.
  5. Stars come from strokes: at or under par is three stars, one over is two, any delivery is one. A hint shows one way to do it but caps that job at two stars.
  6. Missed? Retry (R) puts every shape back where you drew it, so you only fix what went wrong. Undo (Z) removes the last shape. Each job also hides a spray can; collect them to unlock new marker colours.

About this game

Magic Crayon is a draw-to-solve physics puzzle set on city rooftops at night. Each job is a gap, a wall, a locked gate or a laser between a masked courier and the green drop chute, and the only tool you have is a marker. Draw the missing piece and the game reads its shape with an in-house recogniser: a straight line drops in as a plank, a box as a heavy crate, a circle as a wheel, a triangle as a ramp, a zigzag as a spring and an arch as a canopy that hangs in the air. Then press Go and watch the courier run the route with what you made, hopping low walls, running up ramps, bouncing off springs and gliding down long drops. Forty-two handmade jobs are grouped into seven districts. Alley teaches planks, Docks crates and pressure plates, Market wheels that roll down chutes to switches you cannot reach, Station ramps and lasers, Arcade springs, Storm canopies, and the Vault mixes everything with tighter pars. Most jobs have more than one answer: three stars go to the cleanest one, every job hides a spray can on some route, and the cans unlock marker colours from Ice to UV. Retry keeps every shape where you drew it, so a near miss is one fix away, and a reload brings back the job you were on with your drawings in place.

Questions

Is Magic Crayon free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with nothing to download and no sign-up. Your stars, cans and unlocks are saved in this browser.

Can I play it on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Draw with your finger; Go, Undo, Retry, Hint and Pause are large on-screen buttons. It works upright or sideways. On narrow screens the view pans and a strip under the stage shows the whole job.

Why did my shape not turn into anything?

The label above your pen shows what the game sees and how sure it is. Below 60% it refuses the stroke instead of guessing, and it tells you the closest match. Draw the shape a little bigger and cleaner: one stroke, closed for boxes, circles and triangles.

How do the stars work?

Each job has a par number of strokes. Deliver at or under par for three stars, one stroke over for two, and any delivery for one. Using a hint caps that job at two stars.

What are the spray cans for?

Every job hides one, sometimes off the obvious route. Collect them to unlock new marker colours: Ice, Acid, Gold, Chrome and UV.
